Product Description

From the production of Last Samurai Starring Tom Cruise. This is a outstanding example of the quality of the Warrior Last Samurai Armor used in the final battle between the Imperial Army and the Last Samurai's. This armor was custom made by the production. It is very difficult to find such a complete set of Samurai armor. It comes complete with the Front and Rear chest plates with shoulder guards (Yori), a Samurai helmet (kabuto) facemask (mempo) Sash (obi) two toed shoes (Tabi) Arm guards (kote ) lap guards, armored leg gauntlets, pants and top (gi), and leggins. The dark gray styled armor is the color of Katsamoto clan, which increases its collectibility. The Arm guards are constructed of rubber designed to look like metal armor. This gave the actors more flexibility. The Samurai were skilled horseman and this style of armor was often used by them, because it protected their legs and lap with armor. Whereas the Archers did not use lap guards and armored gauntlets, because they needed maximum mobility. The armor is very durable and is constructed of molded resin. Since it was used in the production of Last Samurai it has normal wear and tear. This comes with a COA

Henri-Charles Guérard was born in Paris on April 24, 1846. Guérard started his artistic career in architectural design studying at the Ecoles des Beux-Art. However, by 1870 his focus had shifted from architecture to engraving and painting. This was in large part thanks to his teacher Nicholas Berton. When his brother married Eva Gonzales, this became an opening to establish himself in a larger circle of artists. Working with the likes of Manet and Renoir, he found himself a part of the elite society within Impressionist artists. Still shown in many places today, he lived to see his work displayed in galleries across the Western world.

    Product Description
This exquisite wooden lock jewelry box is lavishly ornamented with mother of pearl peony flower painting. The elaborate adornment of the entire body (except for the back) makes it a breathtaking piece for storing personal fashion items. It is quite remarkable that the artist could depict the scene in such detail without brush nor pen, but only with mother of pearl strips. The fully open peony blossom is a symbol of wealth and nobility. The elegantly designed embroidery laid upon the inner bottom and traditional Korean fish lock give the beautiful panache to this jewelry box. The fish whose eyes remain open even while sleeping was a popular guard to keep vigil over personal treasure. The houseware coated with natural lacquer has long been used in East Asia for its glossy beauty as well as its practicality for being strong, watertight and antibacterial.

       Book Description

      April 27, 2000 0750644125 978-0750644129 1
For the conservator this book is an invaluable tool when examining the options available for treatment of lacquer. Not only does it cover the technology and methods of treatment for both types of lacquer, but it assesses current practices enabling the conservator to make more informed decisions.

Controversial issues are also debated, such as whether Asian lacquer should be restored in the Asian manner, using non-reversible materials, or using western methods that are theoretically reversible. As the book describes production technology and decorative techniques it will also be a useful aid for both art historians and collectors alike in identifying and dating lacquerware.

The Yasukuni Swords: Rare Weapons of Japan, 1933-1945 [Hardcover]

      Book Description
      October 29, 2004
The 8,100 swords manufactured in the grounds of the Yasukuni Shrine between 1933 and 1945 are an exceptional legacy, as artifacts that preserved not only time-honored forging methods but the aesthetic and spiritual traditions of the samurai warrior.

No other weapon in the world can boast of possessing such a high spiritual quality as the Japanese sword. For over a thousand years the sword was revered as the very soul of the samurai warriors who wielded it, commanding awe, respect, and an almost religious devotion. The tumultuous events of modern Japanese history and the nation's relentless drive toward technological advancement, however, irrevocably sealed the sword's fate, and, along with the samurai class, the sword became an anachronism, both culturally and militarily.

As Japan entered a period of unprecedented Imperial expansion in the early twentieth century, the Japanese sword, despite its limited practical effect, became a feature of the soldier's arsenal-an echo of the mythical status it enjoyed in feudal times. The Yasukuni swords emerged during the build-up to World War II, in part to help meet the huge demands of the Imperial Army, but more importantly out of a desire to preserve time-honored forging methods, and to revive the spirit of the samurai. For these reasons, they were notably distinct from so-called "Showa-to," which were mass-produced and inferior in quality and artistry.
